METANOIA
Gazing at you with love and wonder in her eyes
Made her feel happy about who she was in and out, content she sighs.
Fortunate and lucky she was finally having someone with her,
At last, someone to spend a new journey in life and not be alone thereafter.
Yet a lingering feeling she had that she always dismissed.
Frustration, a hollowness that she couldn’t place
Until one day she couldn’t ignore the silent yelling,
“Was this what she really wanted?” the doubt screaming.
Slowly she started changing to how she wanted,
Doing things out of her comfort zone she tested.
Voicing out her disagreements on some views,
Shredding off some of society's expectations for a woman that they drew.
“You are perfect as you are, don’t do this, please!
Stay, don't change!”, was your silent plea.
Words you uttered only until the last minute did you get the courage to say,
“You’re changing too much for me to stay”.
Vows of love swiftly broken and forgotten
Broken shards of the heart were left fallen.
Hurt she was that you stayed when only for the surface part of her
But left when she started searching for the deepest part of her.
However she realized she was never whole from the start,
So she picked up her pieces and pulled her stitches apart.
She bled her way to her own recovery
Engulfed her pain and understood scars to artistic discovery.
Now looking back at her past
She smiled and agreed at last.
No longer was she the same person as before
Still, she finds who she is to the deepest core.
The journey to oneself is not an easy one
But she learned to cherish her own company with none
Excitement for the adventure is what drew her
To the new paths that lay undiscovered in the future.
